Alberton Cricket Club cultivates children’s talent

Captain of Alberton Cricket Club, Stefan Langeveldt, says getting your child active through a sport such as a cricket helps redress the balance with regular exercise throughout the summer.

Alberton Cricket Club aims to make cricket fun and enjoyable for every child, ensuring the spirit of the game is always at the forefront.

Their core values ensure that they focus on the growth and development of children, which will also equip them to face obstacles in their day-to-day life.

According to club captain, Stefan Langeveldt, sport in general but more specifically cricket, allows children to learn to function as individuals and to work in a team environment.

He said these lessons are invaluable and will go a long way in nurturing a child for the future.

“We are looking forward to assisting your child along their cricketing journey. The children are our future. There are many benefits of getting your child involved in sport, but we are going to focus on junior cricket only. Getting outside and active can give your children a huge mental health boost. By being involved in cricket, there is less pressure than in other sports,” he said.

Benefits for your child

Alberton Cricket Club offers junior cricket for children aged six to 14 and can improve the motor skills and concentration of youngsters.

“Even the most distracted child will fully focus on the very hard, fast, and small ball when it is hurtling towards them. It can also improve your child’s general fitness levels with better stamina, balance, and improved hand-eye coordination. The best thing about cricket is the team ethos and how it can build resilience,” explained Langeveldt.

He said children who participate in sport, generally see a reduction in stress levels and that playing cricket at the junior level means everyone gets a fair go at bowling and batting.

“You see them grow year-on-year as the master the art of catching a ball, hitting the wicket from the outfield, and running someone out, improving their batting skills and hitting their first four and bowling someone out,” he said.
With experienced senior players, Alberton Cricket Club continually strives toward giving juniors every opportunity to learn from their seniors.

“They’re actively involved in practice and trail sessions. Cricket is for everyone regardless of age, gender, race, or sporting ability,” Langeveldt said.
