Competing in the U109kg category, the Grade 12 Hoërskool Dinamika learner went up against Mauritius and Libya.

“The competition was an amazing experience and to compete against people that are on the same level and stronger than me makes me want to train harder and do better. Before the competition, I was a bit nervous to be on such a big stage but when I landed my first snatch, all the nerves went away and I was able to give it my all,” said Liam.

Prior to the competition, he trialled in the snatch, clean and jerk and was given three attempts in each set leading up to qualifying for the recent prestigious competition.

Liam only began the sport at the end of 2020 with Movement Crew, a CrossFit gym in Brackenhurst and has grown ever since.

“I’m happy with coming second but there is still room to improve and work harder to go for first next year. I want to thank everyone who supported me it wouldn’t have been possible without them. I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart,” he said.
