Kaya FM hosts family day

It united young and old with its music, tranquil location, delicious food stalls and play areas for the kids.

THE Kaya FM Family Day at Rietvlei Zoo Farm on Sunday, March 5, united young and old through music in a tranquil location. There were stalls selling delicious food and play areas for the children.

Kaya FM’s own DJs and on-air presenters tended the stage and kept everyone entertained.

The event was filled with plenty of happy families dancing to the music, having a braai, cloud-gazing or just laughing together.

The clouds broke for a few minutes, but everyone simply waited it out beneath big stretched tents.

TRUE TO KAYA FM: Mpho Mokoena, one of the event organisers, was a busy bee keeping things running smoothly.

Beneath the VIP and shade tents were tables and chairs with chequered tablecloths and fresh flower centrepieces, as well as colourful country-style decor and furniture.

Terance Lombard, one of the event organisers, said that no expense is spared when it comes to a Kaya FM event. “It’s always beautiful and people love their events. They spare no expense to have people coming back, and I’m very sure it pays off well for them,” he said.

VERY PLAYFUL: There was a large playground for children to enjoy, not to mention the jumping castles, face-painting and other games that Spar sponsored.

While parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles all enjoyed their braai, the youngsters were having a ball in the play area, provided by Spar. There were jungle gyms, slides, swings, a jumping castle, a penalty shooter game, snakes and ladders, and a face-painting kiosk.

FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY: Young and old spent some quality time together in the fresh air.

Mpho Mokoena, co-organiser, said the event sold out despite the possibility of heavy rain. “We expected around 3 000 people to come and the event basically sold out,” she said. “I’m not surprised; we go the extra mile to attract people and it works.”

African Bank sponsored R10 000 in prizes.

The occasion certainly beat those Sunday afternoon blues.
