4-9 THE Sandton City Christmas Village showcases all things Christmas and African. There are daily Christmas carols at 5pm from performing acts Graeme Watkins, Yahto Kraft and Timothy Moloi, as well as an Open Air Cinema featuring various movies during the evenings. The Christmas Village has over 70 festive stores with selections of treats, drinks and and festive shopping. The events start at 4pm to 10pm. Entrance is free. 4-5 2020 JOBURG Zoo Festival of Lights features a collection of illuminated life-size animal characters with classical, harmonious performances, food and craft markets for visitors. Patrons can enjoy a tranquil walk in the zoo on a designated lit route away from the animal enclosures under trees decorated in captivating lights. The festival commences with a classical performance of The Nutcracker by Joburg Ballet at the Bandstand at the Zoo from December 4 to 8. The zoo boasts the big five, a vast 54-hectare site with animals from across all continents, including rare species of animals from the Amazon. Gates open at 7pm to 10pm. 7 SPAR Carols by Candlelight with Jacaranda FM sees South African music artists and entertainment for adults and children this festive season. The event features Swing City, Rubber Duc, Lira, Roan Ash, Tarryn Lamb, Matthew Mole, Paxton and the Soweto Gospel Choir. The SPAR children’s entertainment area provides children with play areas, games, crafts, buskers, movies and more. Fresh food vendors include Asian food, boerewors rolls, vetkoek and Indian food. There is a gin bar, craft beer and ciders. There’s a play area for the children and pets are welcome. A Children’s Theatre takes centre stage from 6pm to 7pm each evening with entertainment to captivate and enchant the children.
