Festival of Chariots to be held in March

The original festival has been held in Jagannatha Puri, India, which still remains one of the world’s largest annual festivals.

Festival of Chariots, or Ratha Yatra as it is traditionally known, is a celebration of love which envelops the community.

It is marked by a conflation of colour, credence in chorus, energised dance and infusion of multicultural splendour.

The original festival has been held in Jagannatha Puri, India, which still remains one of the world’s largest annual festivals.

Join the parade, which starts at 10.15am on March 21 in Braamfontein (corner of Stiemens and Simmons streets next to the civic theatre).

Shuttles will be available form the end point, where parking is available, at the Newtown Music Factory, next to the Dance Factory.

The festival has often been described as a revolutionary one-world Mardi Gras, hosted in all the major cities of the world.

Park for free at the Newtown Music Factory, jump for free onto a shuttle, enjoy a free dance throughout the day and eat a free Karma lunch provided.

Accompany the entourage of Jagannatha, buoyed by song, dance, dazzling decorations and lighting.

Come and enjoy a chariot parade – international swamis, a yoga exhibition, multicultural dance performances and tantalising food free to all.
