Copper cable thieves jailed for 12 years in Robertsham

Two men caught cutting cables by a patrolling guard were found guilty and declared unfit to possess firearms.

Mthulisi Ndlovu (27) and Mthobisi Moyo (34) received 12 years of imprisonment at the Booysens Magistrate’s Court for tampering with essential infrastructure.

A security guard patrolling the area on February 11, 2024, at about 05:30, caught the two cutting copper cables inside a main hole in Robertsham. They were arrested and detained at Booysens police station.

On May 20, the Booysens Magistrate’s Court found them guilty. The magistrate declared both unfit to possess firearms.

Johannesburg district commissioner Major General Nonhlanhla Kubheka said, “The sentence of these two men indicates police commitment to the arrest and prosecution of those tampering with any form of essential infrastructure.”
