Council meeting and draft budget discussion
Once more the draft budget meeting did not provide answers for the many service delivery problems in Bela-Bela.
The meeting was held on Wednesday, March 27, and was attended with most council members present in the boardroom of the municipality.
The speaker, PR Councillor Nelly Zikhali, welcomed all and set the agenda without any new issues being added. The public, which included Die Pos, was asked to vacate the boardroom as the matters on hand were not for public opinion yet. The draft budget and the development plan (IDP) were discussed thereafter.
Mayor Gloria Seleka said in her opening speech that the municipality will make the water treatment plant in town a priority. They will also address the Settlers-sewage pump plant that is causing trouble. The landfill site and bulk water draining system were items that will feature in the development plan.
Die Pos tried to speak to some of the councilors but was not able to arrange a follow-up meeting before the Easter weekend.
