As reported in Cops intimidation investigated, week ending 9 August, a YouTube video, Sisters in PJs being pulled over by police, surfaced online. The two sisters in the video alleged they were intimidated by Douglasdale police officers after being stopped, without their drivers licences.
Douglasdale police spokesperson Warrant Officer Balan Muthan said as soon as notice of the alleged intimidation was reported, the management of the police station started the initial investigation.
“Evidence has been collected and the complainants’ interviews were conducted. The departmental process has started,” said Muthan.
He said as the women were still living in fear, the interview was conducted by Colonel Tinus Swart and Muthan.
“Statements were obtained pertaining to the entire incident and a criminal case has been registered,” said Muthan.
A fine was issued to the sister who was driving without her licence and the ticket stated that she was contravening the Road Traffic Act by operating a car without a driver’s licence.
“Douglasdale Police Station sees this incident in a serious light. Due process will follow its course. Management does not accept such alleged behaviour,” said Muthan.
