Buzz Shopping Centre tackles signal jammers

FOURWAYS - Following reports of increased signal jamming activity in the Fourways area, The Buzz Shopping Centre, along with other centres in the Fourways precinct, have apprehended a suspect caught in the act.

This came after reports from Douglasdale Police Station that malls and shopping centres needed to step up to the plate to stop signal jamming.

The precinct’s centres, which include The Buzz Shopping Centre, Cedar Square, Leaping Frog Centre and Fourways Mall, have started their eradication of the crime menace.

Security manager, Hendrik Denner, explained that a recent success included a suspect that was seen driving erratically between Fourways Crossing and Fourways Mall. Fidelity Security Services, along with police, gave chase and were able to apprehend the suspect on site at Cedar Square.

“We are aware of the signal jamming syndicates and are confident that we will be able to limit further incidents in the future,” said Denner.

Centres in the precinct are earmarked to receive signage in parking areas to address customer awareness. “We will continue to be vigilant in our pursuit of further suspects,” Denner added.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan from Douglasdale Police Station said it was important for the public to check if their doors were locked when stepping away from vehicles.
