No tolerance for school crime trend

DOUGLASDALE - A crime incident at a Fourways school has led Douglasdale Community Police Forum to issue a caution.

The forum’s chairperson Jean Berdou warned Fourways pupils, parents and teachers to be on the lookout for suspicious people on or around the school campus and report them to Douglasdale police.

“Douglasdale Community Police Forum issues strong caution to parents and pupils to be careful with electronic goods, especially cellphones and iPads, and ensure they are in safe custody while at school. Criminals are opportunistic and rely on community apathy to take advantage of an opportunity for theft. A little care and responsibility will remove the opportunity for criminals to relieve ownership of such goods,” said Berdou.

He urged pupils to be responsible and vigilant.

He said the forum also encouraged all schools to carefully review their security arrangements, and to take steps to secure pupils, parents and their property. He said the presence of security guards and cameras, as well as maintaining the perimeter fencing was vital to deter crime.

“We must all stand together to fight against crime and stamp out the trend immediately,” said Berdou.
