Paddling down the river
MEYERTON - Fourways residents David and Kim Browne partook in the Belloord sponsored Klip river race hosted by Florida Lake Canoe Club.
Jennie Dallas of the Gauteng Canoe Union said the 22km race from Daleside through Henley on Klip to Meyerton, was a perfect re-introduction to river races for those paddlers who have been hibernating throughout winter.
“With the major national and most popular race on the calendar, the Hansa Fish River Marathon, scheduled to take place in just six weeks time in Cradock in the Eastern Cape, the race was the biggest turnout this year with over 100 boats finishing,” she said.
The Browne’s said they enjoyed paddling together because it was great quality time away from home, the kids, the TV and telephones. The couple finished the Belloord Klip river race as the 12th male/female double combination, and the 51st double out of 70, in a time of 1 hour 54 minutes.
