Ark Animal Centre robbed

At 8:30pm on 15 September the Ark Animal Centre in Chartwell was broken into.

Candice Eilertsen of the centre said, “We had actually had an incredible weekend at the shelter because we’d managed to home 12 puppies. We were all really happy until we received a panicked call from our kennel manager, Richard Dingtone.”

Eilertsen said the kennel manager heard the dogs barking and went into the entrance hall to see two guys running at the door with a pole. “He ran out the kitchen door just in time as they smashed the glass and started pursuing him,” she said. “He managed to get away and hide in the bushes which was where he called us from.”

Eilertsen said they called the police and then made their way to the shelter. “The first thing we did once we got there was check that the puppies were alright and thankfully they were.”

The suspects stole the shelter’s radio. “It’s more annoying that our new glass door has been smashed. However, this has highlighted a severe gaping hole in our security and we are now looking to get an electric fence, alarm and armed response for our property.”

Eilertsen urged Fourways residents to contact them if they could assist.
