Pet food collection to break world record

The annual Pet & Me Expo will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most amount of pet food collected over a seven day period.

The expo will be held from 11 October to 13 October. The attempt will be in collaboration with Complete Pet Food to break the record that is held by the USA.

The collection drive takes place from 7 October to 13 October. All visitors to the expo are requested to bring any brand of bagged or canned pet food as their contribution towards the record.

There will also be collection stations at the Coca-Cola Dome, Complete Pet Food outlets and various supermarkets such as Douglasdale and Cedar Square Pick n Pay, and Spar at Pineslopes Shopping Centre, Fourways Gardens and Jukskei Park. The expo is aiming to collect more than 15 tons of pet food which will be delivered to non profit organisations such as Kitty and Puppy Haven and Ark Animal Centre.

Zara Langford, spokesperson for the expo said they were challenging all corporations and schools to join in and be part of the record attempt.

She said, “If a school or company manages to collect more than 500kg of pet food they will receive a personalised certificate to acknowledge their generous donation.”

The final count for the record will take place at 4pm on 11 October at the expo.
