Jewson hailed champion during canoe race

Douglas Jewson of Fourways was the winner of the 27km canoe race hosted by the Crocodile Canoe Club.

Jewson obliterated his fellow competitors and finished with a five minute lead in a time of 2:27.

The race started on the portion of the Jukskei River that flows past Lanseria Airport and finished at the Pecanwood Golf Estate on Hartbeespoort dam. The race provided excellent preparation for paddlers who will be heading to Nelspruit to participate in the Crocodile river race between Waterval Boven and Nelspruit, known as the Lowveld Crocodile. This is one of the most difficult rivers to navigate and requires Triple A+ grade canoeing skills.

Jewson trains regularly to hone his technical skills and is looking forward to the Nelspruit race.
