Giving the gift of hope to Lesedi’s children
CHARTWELL - Lesedi Creche held a Christmas party for its pupils at Elf's Hill party centre.
The creche is a non-profit organisation based in the Malatjie township in Lanseria. The Malatjie community has no access to running water or electricity.
The creche’s owner, Doctor Mahlangu is just 21 years old and he inherited the creche after his mother died in October this year.
Lesedi cares for 130 children aged three months to six years old and provides care, education and two meals a day. It also has a special needs programme for children in the community with physical and mental disabilities. One of these is 16-year-old Madidimalo Neluonde who cannot walk and is unable to speak.
The creche relies heavily on sponsors who commit themselves to donating R160 per month for the care and feeding of a child.
Lesedi sponsor Martin Chaka said, “I decided to become a sponsor because when I think about it I can spend R160 easily during a night out. For
R160 per month I know that one child will have access to two meals a day and a safe place to learn. It also motivates me to work harder during the year to be able to fulfil the sponsorship commitment that I made.”
The Lesedi Christmas party started with educational entertainment by Clamber Club Sandton which delighted the children with lots of fun activities. The children were treated to lunch before opening their presents which were donated via the Santa’s Shoebox programme by the Fourways Clamber Club mother’s group.
All the children’s faces lit up with excitement when they received their presents but the biggest surprise gift went to Neluonde.
CE Mobility donated a new wheelchair to Neluonde who immediately started to wheel himself around excitedly.
