Mission accomplished for Dainfern triathlete

DAINFERN - Triathlete and Dainfern resident Jaryd Browne has returned victorious from this year's Mauritius Triathlon Federation's National Championships 2013.

The race was held at Poste Lafayette on the East Coast of the island.

The swim consisted of two laps, 350m into the sea and back. Brown said that on the day the water temperature was high with a 45 degree on shore wind that created a chop on the water that was atypical on the island.

After Browne completed the 1500m swim in 22 minutes and 30 seconds, he was extra motivated to shine in the biking segment of the race as this is his forte. The bike course was a winding one along the shoreline of the island. It consisted of four laps, 5 km out and back.

Browne started the running segment of the race conservatively because of the hot and humid weather on the island. At the water tables, positioned every 1.25km, Browne took in as much water as he could to keep his body temperature as low as possible. His run was consistent but he was being chased by friend and fellow athlete, Boris Toulet.

On the last lap of the run Toulet tried to close the gap but at the last turn-around Browne used all his reserve energy to finish first overall in a time of 2 hours 13 minutes and 30 seconds.

Browne said, “I am over the moon with my result and am so thankful for the support from my family and friends, especially Boris Toulet who accommodated my family and I while we were on the island.”

He added, “There was no better way to end 2013! A win overseas is extra sweet.”
