Boswell Circus gets the boot

MAGALIESSIG - Circus loses stand in land sale.

While the Boswell Wilkie Circus opened for a limited engagement on Wednesday, this might be last time the circus gets to pitch their tent across from Montecasino.

Tsogo Sun in-consortium recently purchased the land adjacent to Montecasino, the entertainment complex noted in a statement

yesterday.

“There was an existing agreement between the previous owners and the circus, allowing them to operate off the land concerned – as had been the case for several years previously,” they said.

Moving forward, Tsogo Sun will be developing the land and have advised the circus that the land will not be available to them in future it concluded.

The circus controversy comes over them being continued punching bags over animal cruelty issues.

The circus continuously states, “The animals are an integral part of the circus and are treated as part of the family. Their well-being is of utmost importance. Careful attention is paid to their diets. They get the best food and care. They are groomed, exercised and have their enclosures cleaned daily. Animal keepers and trainers are never far from their charges 24 hours a day,” they say.

But the Boycott Brian Boswell Animal Circus facebook page tends to paint a different picture.

They have become a public pressure forum, asking towns visited by the Circus to give them the cold shoulder.

They say circuses are not a place for animals, wild or domesticated.

“They are forced to perform unnatural tricks that immediately, and over time injure the animals physically and mentally. Their living conditions are unacceptable and do not compare in the slightest to those the animals were intended, and want, to live in.”

There have been no damning reports of animal cruelty at the current location for the Circus on Montecasino Boulevard.

The performances so close to Christmas went hand-in-hand with charity performances, where organisations get to visit the circus for free.

All registered charities are invited to contact the Brian Boswell’s Circus Cyber Lions club to arrange a free visit to the circus.

The circus has daily performances until 19 January.
