Racy words between Zuma and the DA

JOBURG - Following a release by the ANC Youth League yesterday attacking Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille, President Jacob Zuma joined the bandwagon yesterday during ANC's 102 year anniversary celebrations.

He said ‘the person who wants an investigation never expected a black person to pass’.

This came after Zille called for an independent audit of the 2013 matric results.

His speech to a community in Mbombela in Mpumalanga was one that needed no praise singer. He allegedly had a plethora of attacks ready against ANC opposition.

Zuma put on the charm, saying that the ANC will be in power forever. He went on to mention how the ANC has fought for freedom, before smacking other political parties, stating that small parties should be ignored, those who vote for them will throw away their vote.

Parliamentary leader of the DA, Lindiwe Mazibuko has called these comments an attack on South Africa’s democracy.

“He pleaded to South Africans to vote for the ANC so that the party can gain a two-thirds majority in order to change the Constitution. He also said that the ANC would be in power forever,” Mazibuko said in a statement today.

She said the president had a track record of attacking constitutional democracy and disregards constitutional values.

“It is worrying that he wants complete control over its amendment. It also raises questions about what President Zuma is so eager to change in the Constitution.”

Changes to the constitution is not necessarily what Mazibuko wants abolished.

“The South African Constitution is one of the most progressive documents of its kind. While it is a living document and should from time to time be amended to reflect the needs of South Africans, such a process should not be taken lightly and most importantly, cannot be used as an election ploy.”

In Mazibuko’s opinion President Zuma’s entire speech smacked of the desperation of a leader whose party is rapidly losing its grip on power and is determined

to cling to it at all costs.

“South Africans will see through this ruse in 2014.”

The ANC is however not fazed, and has been hard at work on its 102nd Anniversary Rally and the launch of the 2014 General Elections Manifesto in Nelspruit at the weekend under the banner of ‘102 years of selfless struggle, building a better life for all’.
