Run like you were born to do it
JOBURG- Born2Run Athletics Club Johannesburg branch held its official launch at St Stithians College on 22 January.
The launch kicked off with a 5km time trial in which 46 runners took part, including South African weatherman Simon Gear and Megan Mackenzie, one of South Africa’s fastest female trail runners. An official opening was held later at the Higher Ground Restaurant. The guests in attendance included the club members, board members, partners as well as the club’s sponsors.
Born2Run is an athletes’ club aimed at three types of runners: social, developing and elite. Their aim is to identify talent in the club and to provide athletes with the resources they require to become great.
The club also runs a development initiative called Adopt-an-Athlete in which an individual, a group or company is able to sponsor a youth development athlete for one year. “The response thus far has been really great. We could use all the assistance we can get to work towards developing athletes in South Africa,” said David Ashworth, Born2Run chairman.
