The resident, who did not want to be named, explained that the armed robbery happened when she entered her house, leaving the security gate open because she was going back to her vehicle which was parked outside. Unbeknown to her, two men were behind her. The suspects tied up, gagged and blindfolded the resident and questioned her on the whereabouts of her jewellery and safe. “All I had was costume jewellery and we don’t have a safe,” she said. “But they did take my wedding bands and grandson’s Playstation, along with a lot of other sentimental things.”
According to the resident, the suspects were in their mid-20s and spoke very good English.
The resident said that she received amazing service from the Douglasdale police who responded to her call immediately.
“Two detectives even stayed with us for the whole afternoon until investigators came to dust for fingerprints,” the resident said.
Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Dougalsdale police said, “The members of Douglasdale police always perform at the high standard that is expected of us by our station commander, Brigadier Leon Kruger.”
He added that the case has now been transferred to the house robbery task team for further investigation.
