Robyn Bishop explained how her house was broken into in the early hours of 5 April. “With a newborn baby I was actually awake when the house alarm suddenly went off,” she said. “It was terrifying to know that my husband and I did not hear the intruder cut our burglar bars and get away with my handbag.”
Bishop said she was most upset about having to get a new ID book and drivers licence. “The department of home affairs was the last place I wanted to spend a morning at, especially with a new baby,” she said.
On 7 April, Bishop received a phone call to say that Constable Mashudo Madzaga and Constable Anna Ramafalo were at her gym with the contents of her purse.
“Not only did the police take the time and trouble to track me down via my gym membership card, but they also delivered my ID book and cards to my house that same morning,” she said. “I was pleasantly surprised and impressed.”
“Thank you Douglasdale Police Station. I have some renewed faith and look forward to voting with my ID book on 7 May,” she added.
Colonel Tinus Swart of the Douglasdale police was appreciative of the praise. “It’s good for the community to comment when they do receive good service from the police as it encourages the members [of the station] to do well,” he said.
