Beastess wins fittest woman title

DOUGLASDALE - Resident, 25-year-old Celestie 'Beastess' Engelbrecht won the title of Fittest Woman in Africa at the June 2014 Crossfit competition.

Engelbrecht’s new title allows her the opportunity to compete with the fittest people in the world at the International Crossfit Games in California in July.

She will be required to train for three sessions a day in order to prepare for this. The training will really push Engelbrecht to her limit, as she also works a standard 9-to-5 job as health and fitness product manager at a health and fitness online portal, fsphealthandfitness.co.za. “I knew winning Africa Regionals and having the opportunity to go to The Crossfit Games would mean more training hours and less work,” she said. However Engelbrecht’s company has been very supportive of her training and have even stepped in as her official sponsors.

Engelbrecht has some advice for people who may have similar dreams to hers. She explained that regionals was the biggest challenge she’d ever faced. “I’ve never won a competition this big before and the fear of not being good enough despite all my training almost beat me,”she said.

“But I got through because I believed in myself and the preparations I had made to get where I am.

“So it’s important to believe in yourself, work hard and have faith in the effort you’ve put in.”
