Soup kitchen warms up winter

KYA SAND - Konica Minolta Touch and Lime Telecoms in Broadacres gave back to their community with a soup kitchen at Ubuntu in Christ Bible Church in Kya Sand.

Ubuntu in Christ Bible Church is situated between two informal settlements in Kya Sand. The church aims to assist both communities in any way possible. Their first step was starting the soup kitchen and the second will be a daycare facility for the many children in the community who are at risk.

When trying to find a deserving cause to help with their corporate social responsibility initiative, Konica Minolta Touch and Lime Telecoms realised they did not have to look far.

The companies mobilised to buy ingredients for the church’s first soup kitchen but also collected blankets, clothes and toys for the church’s daycare facility. The feeding was a touching event with employees from the two companies getting involved with dishing out food for the children of Kya Sand. Warren McLaughlin of Konica Minolta Touch explained that they wanted to do something that benefited the community.

“We want to do this regularly,” he said. “It’s unbelievable what a difference you can make.”
