Dainfern DJ is dreaming big

DAINFERN - DJ Marlonville (24) from Dainfern has big plans to take the African music industry by storm.

The DJ and recording artist whose real name is Ideology Dhliwayo started his entertainment company, Marlonville Entertainment last year after graduating with a BCom marketing degree from Damelin College. Since then he has performed at birthday parties, corporate events and weddings. However, his true passion lies in his own music.

DJ Marlonville also goes by the name of Stepper T when he is singing. “I sing a mixture of Afro-pop and house,” he said. “I’m not a rapper, I prefer to sing and I toast [a style of lyrical chanting in Dancehall music which involves a deejay talking over a rhythm].”

He is also planning to grow his company so that he can start a record label and sign other African recording artists and DJs. “I think African music is developing,” he said. “African artists just need to market themselves more and need to gain fans by utilising forums like Youtube.”

His international role models are Puff Daddy and Dr Dre because he feels that they have “really made it big”.

He also admires South African muso, DJ Sbu because of the impact he has had on the South African music industry.
