Best parents in Diepsloot

DIEPSLOOT - The Family Africa organisation in conjunction with the World Family Organisation held parenting workshops in Diepsloot.

The workshops entitled, Building Stronger Families started on Mother’s Day and ended just after Father’s Day.

This was to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the United Nations initiative, Year of the Family.

A total of five, two-part workshops with more than 200 parents participating were held, and finalists were chosen for the awards of Best Mother, Best Father, Best Grandmother and Best Grandfather. Finalists were chosen on the basis of attendance at the workshops, questionnaires covering their parenting strengths and weaknesses, lessons learnt, and a written motivation of why they should be voted best parents.

The winners were chosen after each finalist gave a short speech in front of a crowd of about 700 adults and children. Prizes consisted of toiletry sets, jewellery, parenting books, cook books, chocolates and groceries.

Rachel Aird, chairperson of The Family Africa who is also on the executive board of The World Family Organisation said, “We believe it is very important to invest in building stronger families at grassroots, and thought that this was a really good way to join in celebrating the anniversary of the Year of the Family.”
