Pedestrian dies on impact

SUNNINGHILL - There was chaos on the corner of Edison Crescent and Maxwell Drive in Sunninghill on the morning of 26 June when a pedestrian died after being knocked down by a car.

It is still unclear why the car spun out of control, but according to a worker at the petrol station on Edison Crescent who wanted to remain anonymous, the pedestrian was standing at a traffic light when the car collided with him. A caller on Talk Radio 702 who claimed to have seen the accident described the car as being a white Ford Figo. The worker at the station said the car was travelling very fast and it collided with the pedestrian with such an impact that the pedestrian was thrown over the rail and into the forecourt of the petrol station. “After that I just heard my manager shouting for us to call the ambulance so I called Emer-G-Med and they were here within a few minutes,” the worker said.

An Emer-G-Med paramedic attended to the pedestrian, however he was found to be dead on impact. “We just put a blanket over his body and waited for the paramedics to take him away,” the worker said. It is reported that another pedestrian was also injured during the collision and has now been transported to a nearby hospital.
