A golden oldie spins the golden oldies

PINESLOPES- Englishman, Tony Blewitt is a familiar voice.

Actually, he might be one of South Africa’s most recognisable voices and now he’s using it to advocate for golden oldies.

The music that is, although those with dentures are free to come party too.

The radio personality who has worked for 5FM, ClassicFM, OFM and now MixFM started to host Flashback Fridays at Stones Fourways this year.

With hits from the ’70s, ’80s and ’90s, Blewitt is mixing generations at the monthly parties.

Only open to over 30s, in-house DJs are responsible for creating great mash-up’s of those decades’ biggest hits.

“We want to create an atmosphere where some can relive great music, and others can get to appreciate the music that their parents grew up listening to,” Blewitt said.

He said the event had grown the past few months, and he was always surprised how over 30s at the monthly event were able to stay on the dance floor through the night.

He believes it is the social aspect of it all.

With the success of Flashback Fridays and the Flashback Friday segment on Blewitt’s MixFM morning show, he believes the monthly parties might grow into bigger events.

He added that there were plans to host a spring bash with live bands outside Stones, and great disco beats thumping inside the club.

The next Flashback Friday takes place on 11 July.
