Taxi driver believes in ubuntu

FOURWAYS - A heart-warming story involving a taxi driver has been published on the ANC Facebook page.

A passenger in a taxi tells of a moment of genuine support and assistance observed between the taxi driver and another passenger.

According to the passenger who witnessed the good deed, a young man hailed the taxi and before he entered he told the driver his fare was short by R2.

The driver, Thilivhali Singo from Venda, allowed the young man to get in and asked him where he wanted to go.

The young man said he was going to his first job interview and had been applying for a job since he graduated from the Vaal University of Technology, and only received a call for the interview the day before.

The driver told him to not pay the taxi fare entirely because he would not have money to get back home.

As the driver collected the money from the rest of the passengers, he gave the young man R10 and wished him good luck for his job interview. The driver said to the young man, “Don’t give up brother and become one of those young boys in the township who smoke nyaope.”

The post has received numerous comments. Ayanda Nenemba said, “He is one of many taxi drivers who truly carry the heart of the community.”

Aldo Raphela saluted the man. “He is one of the few drivers who helped me when I was R1.50 short on my way home from work,” he said.

Melissa Smit was happy to hear such an “awesome story”.

“We so often hear negative things about taxi drivers; it’s nice to hear something positive for a change,” she added.
