Shelter needs a helping paw

DIEPSLOOT - Fourpaws animal shelter, outside Diepsloot is appealing to the public for help with their shelter.

The shelter houses a number of cats and dogs. They provide veterinary assistance to pet owners who do not have the funds to care for their pets, but in extreme cases of abuse or neglect, the animals are taken to the shelter.

At the shelter the animals are rehabilitated, neutered or spayed and cared for until they are adopted.

According to founder, Merinda Brits, the shelter is now in desperate need of assistance with building a new road, as the owners of the property on which the shelter is located have built a high wall blocking the shelter’s original entrance.

Brits said that the shelter also needs help to build more kennels and runs for the ever-growing number of dogs that are taken in. She added that on top of this, FourPaws needs a proper toilet with a septic tank, therefore they are in need of help from someone with building and fencing skills, building materials, a septic tank, plumbing materials and fencing poles.

Brits mentioned that the shelter would also be grateful for any financial help from the public in order to acquire another vehicle to transport animals.
