Dainfern College goes green

DAINFERN - From 2 to 6 June Dainfern College hosted its annual Green Week which was themed Wild Things.

The initiative was started by the late Anthony Bowden, who was head of environmental affairs at the college.

This year’s Green Week focused on five endangered species in South Africa. Each day was allocated to an animal, a colour and a corresponding ribbon to raise awareness of the plight of those animals.

The animals included were the wild dog, the blue crane, the cheetah, the African elephant and Pickergill’s reed frog, an amphibian commonly found along the East Coast of South Africa.

Green Week ended with a recycled fashion show during the school’s assembly. The campaign went out with a bang as the Grade 8s and 9s modelled clothing that they designed out of recycled materials.
