Celebrities and athletes challenged to a physical test
FOURWAYS - There was a lot of jeering and boasting at Montecasino on 22 August as The Parlotones' Neil Pauw was declared the fittest celebrity.
Jacaranda FM and Planet Fitness teamed up to promote healthy lifestyles and exercise.
Athletes and celebrities were invited to take on an epic Crossfit challenge to decide the fittest and strongest of the lot. Hosted by Jacaranda FM’s Martin Bester, the contestants were put through some interesting physical challenges. The challenge saw contestants do numerous sit-ups, push-ups, speed drills and weightlifting outside Jacaranda FM’s studio at the casino.
Fitness model and news anchor Stacey Holland represented the women in the challenge, despite her physical beauty Holland proved she was no pushover and joined in the testosterone filled banter with the other male contestants.
“After moving to Johannesburg to study, I fell into a typical student life and fitness and diet became less of a priority,” she said.
The fitness challenge has allowed her to educate women on being fit and healthy. She said it did not necessarily mean having big muscles and looking unnatural. She stressed that doing some exercise was better than doing none.
Music sensation Khan Morbee, known as KAHN, of The Parlotones managed to escape the challenge due to recent surgery. He was, however there to support the other contestants.
He agreed with fellow constants that being in the limelight had encouraged him to lead a healthy lifestyle with a fitness regime. “Being a musician that is always on the road travelling or flying I often don’t have the time to exercise or eat healthily but I do try my best to fit some sort of exercise in and maintain a diet,” he said.
Joining him, the band’s drummer Neil Pauw supported the idea of promoting fitness for children and adults in a fun and exciting way, and took part in the challenge on behalf of Morbee.
The challenge was complete with Jacranda FM’s Alex McMaster, better known as Arod, who wanted to join in the fun and prove his physical abilities against the celebrities and athletes. Despite the mammoth task, Arod was committed to proving his worth as he had done many extraordinary and weird tasks before, he said.
The challenge was an introduction to the Discovery Spring Walk that will place next month at Union Buildings in Pretoria.
