550km in 40 hours for the deaf
LONEHILL - Resident Paula Quinsee of CoAlliance will be participating in a charity challenge where four teams of five runners each will race against 25 cyclists from Stonehaven on Vaal to Pietermaritzburg from 9-11 October.
They will be running in relay format around the clock while the cyclists will be riding together as a group and only riding during daylight hours.
The teams will be racing against each other to see who will reach Pietermaritzburg first over a distance of 550km in under 48 hours.
The“Run Like a Girl” team is the only all-girls team participating in the event and hopes to be the first team to cross the finish line overall. They are being supported by Garmin, 32Gi and Contour Sports. Each individual is required to raise R15 000 to participate in this event of which the proceeds will go to St Vincent’s School for the Deaf.
The St Vincent school was established in 1934 and has been educating deaf children for 80 years. The school reflects the socio-economic diversity of our country, with over 370 pupils, ranging from three to 21 years old, from pre-school to primary school, high school and vocational training, as well as a special needs programme for learners with disabilities.
CoAlliance has been generous supporters of The St Vincent School for the Deaf for several years, while other sponsors such as Garmin, 32Gi and Contour Sports have come to the party for this event, all working towards helping these children achieve their full potential.
