Diepsloot officers charged with corruption

DIEPSLOOT - Two Diepsloot police officials are set to appear in court on charges of theft and corruption.

The officers are a sergeant (39) and a reservist constable (46).

According to Warrant officer Daniel Mavimbela, head of communications for Diepsloot police, it is alleged that the suspects raided a Diepsloot tavern in June this year. They confiscated liquor valued at R6 500. Mavimbela said the officers asked the for tavern owner for R800 to secure his own freedom. Apparently he could only manage R700, which the suspects allegedly received.

Later, when the tavern owner went to the police station to complain about the raid, it was discovered the neither the liquor nor cash were recorded in the registers. The officers are out on a warning.

They will appear in the Atteridgeville Magistate’s Court on the 12 November.
