Parking problems at police station

DOUGLASDALE - The Douglasdale police are reminding the public to be courteous when visiting the police station.

Warrant Officer Balan Muthan, head of communications for the Douglasdale police, made an appeal to the community to be patient while the client service centre at the station is being renovated. The renovations are due to finish in the middle of next month. “When entering the police station, the public should take note of the signs and blue arrows to find the relevant departments,” he said.

Of more pressing concern are the parking violations that are occurring on the police station’s premises. Muthan reminded the public that the public parking of the Douglasdale Police Station is across the road from the station, not at the station itself. “Any unauthorised vehicles on the police station premises will be wheel clamped,” he said. “We need to keep the entrance to the station open for police vehicles to use in the case of an emergency.”

Muthan said it has been noticed that residents are parking their cars at the police station’s public parking overnight. “The management of Douglasdale Police Station have also noticed that residents are parking their vehicles at the police station on weekday mornings and travelling in lift clubs,” Muthan said. “The police are not responsible for anything that happens to these vehicles and it puts an inconvenience on people who are actually visiting the station.” A section of the police station’s public parking has recently been cordoned off. Muthan said this new section is for state vehicle inspections and for when vehicles are impounded overnight. He said residents should only park in designated parking bays and not create their own parking spots at the expense of other visitors.

Muthan added that residents using the public parking at the police station should remember to pick up their litter and treat the parking lot the same way they would treat their own driveways.
