Smooth sailing for whitewater canoeists
FOURWAYS - Fourways residents Grant Thiel and his son, Warren, partnered up with BrianWhillier were greeted with superb weather in Florida Lake Canoe Club’s 30km river race as participants braved some low water levels and shallow rapids.
The Thiels took on the whitewater challenge and finished in a time of 02.29.00.
The race saw canoeists ride the rapids from Daleside near the R59 Heidelberg off-ramp, through Henley-on-Klip to finish in Meyerton. The race provided opportunities for new paddlers to gain experience for A Grade status, which is a requirement for participation in national events such as the Fish River Marathon and the Dusi.
