Domain Lounge restaurant giving residents a noisy nocturnal raw deal

PAULSHOF - Residents of Paulshof and Lonehill are complaining that Domain Lounge Restaurant has been playing loud music until the early hours of the following morning, over the past few weekends.

The popular venue, which operates on the corner of Main and Witkoppen roads, is allegedly spewing disturbing noise every Friday until Sunday.

“The disturbance is experienced every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2pm until the early hours of the next morning and is extremely disruptive,” complained local resident, Melanie de Bruyn in a letter availed to Fourways Review.

De Bruyn said, “The Clay Oven where Domain Lounge was operating from was owned by Gautrain which she urged to stop leasing out their premises to nightclubs. Another noisy night club was operating from the same premises before a few years ago. It closed down after clashing with residents over the loud music.”

The Shisa Nyama restaurant Facebook page is awash with promises of all night music to potential patrons.

“Tonight at Domain the hottest RnB Hop & Urban Bass hits to keep the party going all night long. Drinks and good music from Thursdays to Sundays,” reads part of the club’s Facebook post.

Co-owner of the Shisa Nyama restaurant Justice Huni partially admitted responsibility and maintained that they removed outside loud speakers after receiving the complaints. He dismissed claims that they operating a night club, insisting that theirs was a Shisa Nyama Restaurant with a liquor license.

“We have a standing agreement with Sandton police officials that we should stop playing music from outside the building. We have also lowered the volume,” said Huni.

He however said his restaurant was not entirely to blame over the noise and apportioned blame to a tavern operating in the near-by informal settlement.

“There is are some taverns neighbouring us in an informal settlement that play music as well,” said Huni.

He also said some of the noise was booming from car loud speakers of patrons who braai and drink from their parking lot.

“We have however made a resolution to stop our patrons from playing music from the restaurant. And our security guys will not allow them to do that anymore,” said Huni.
