Guests dine for a cause on World Cancer Day
CEDAR SQUARE - Guests were treated to a night of healthy Chinese cuisine at Kong restaurant in Cedar Square as part of Zomato and PinkDrive’s Pink Table Project in commemoration of World Cancer Day on 4 February.
The Pink Table Project saw cancer supporters dining out at more than 100 participating restaurants throughout the country. PinkDrive and The Wellness Trail marked World Cancer Day with the largest national dinner party ever attempted.
“The Pink Table Project is an evening spent with friends and family, to celebrate all the good things about life, reminding us about what we are fighting for,” said CEO and founder of PinkDrive Noelene Kotschan.
“It is also an exciting world-first that hopefully spurs an international effort and event in the gastronomic calendar.
“We are passionate about the importance of early detection in breast cancer. We leverage events like these to drive awareness while also raising the much-needed funds to keep our vehicles [mobile units] on the road.”
The restaurants which participated in the nationwide fundraising event added a R100 charge to each patron’s bill for the evening, and all proceeds raised on the evening will go towards funding the PinkDrive’s ongoing mission to bring important women’s health services to disadvantaged communities.
The PinkDrive’s mobile units provide free services including education on women’s health and breast self-examination, mammograms, pap smears and clinical examinations.
The nation-wide fundraising event also signified the official launch of Cancer Wellness Awareness in Africa, an initiative to highlight the importance of nutrition in cancer care.
