TOP STORY OF THE WEEK: Man left critical after falling through ceiling at a mall in Fourways

FOURWAYS – The man sustained 'numerous injuries', paramedics said.

A man, believed to be in his 30s, was left critically injured on 1 March after he fell through a ceiling at a mall in Fourways.

This is according to a statement issued by Russel Meiring in the communications office at ER24.

Meiring said, “ER24 Paramedics, along with Life Healthcare, arrived on the scene shortly after 12.30pm to find the man lying on the ground surrounded by numerous bystanders.

“Paramedics assessed the man and found he had sustained numerous injuries and was in a critical condition.”

Meiring added that paramedics began treating the man and provided him with advanced life support interventions.

“During treatment, the man’s vital signs rapidly diminished. CPR and further advanced life support interventions were initiated. Fortunately, after some time, the man’s vital signs returned,” said Meiring.

“Once stable, the man was transported to Life Fourways Hospital for urgent treatment.

“Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.”

Fourways Mall on Twitter confirmed that the incident took place at the shopping centre.

In a series of tweets, the mall confirmed that a sub-contractor employee was injured after ‘falling through the roof onto the level below’.

A tweet from the mall further stated that the mall’s management and developers were ‘committed to maintaining the highest safety standards and practices possible during the project’.

The Fourways Review is investigating the matter and will update with further information as soon as it comes to light.
