Kyalami riders are excited to be back in the saddle

KYALAMI – Local yard hosts lessons again under strict safety protocols.

Lessons are running again at Phaeton Park Stables but everything is done safely and by the book.

The Kyalami yard had a Covid-19 risk assessor on-site, who outlined safety protocols that would ensure the well-being of anyone coming to ride during the coronavirus pandemic.

Safety measures at the stables include the registering and taking of information of people as they arrive, wearing face masks when not riding, washing hands or using sanitiser and keeping social distancing.

Signs have been placed around the yard to remind riders to adhere to these protocols.”People have been more than happy to return to riding, they have been desperate to get some fresh air,” said stables owner, Vee Laros.

“Many youngsters have been eager to ride again as not many sports are available to them right now and school sports have not opened. We have even found new people joining us for lessons, some used to ride years ago and called out of the blue asking if they could come the same day. I am seeing sometimes seven enquiries a week about people wanting to join.”

Laros explained that the stables has restructured its lessons to have smaller groups and fewer people at the yard at any given time. This means the yard is open an hour later than it was before. She explained no training shows can be held presently as that would see a gathering of too many people and be unsafe.

The yard is home to showjumping, dressage, equitation and even carriage driving. The yard has been around for close to 60 years and has four generations of horse lovers at the rein.
