Ezethu show director encourages riders to stay positive
BLUE HILLS – Local yard encourages the community to stay positive and safe.
Ezethu’s show director has encouraged the riding community to stay positive during this difficult time of lockdown and be cautious in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
The Blue Hills yard will host its first show since March in the fourth leg of The Riders Series on 9 and 10 August. Show director Esla du Plessis is not ignorant of the difficult circumstances many have found themselves in.
“I would encourage people to put 100 per cent of their effort into staying safe and not putting each other at risk,” she said.
“I would say stick to a simple routine during this time as stress can make us sicker and weaken our immune systems. Get fresh air and exercise and take your vitamins. Avoid stress in any way you can.”
Du Plessis added that it is imperative people follow all safety protocols when in public.
The yard itself will adhere to protocols set out by the South African Equestrian Federation come its show.
These will include holding different classes at different times to ensure no more than 50 people are present at any time.
“There will also be no prize-giving, results will be mailed to people electronically. There will be pre-packaged catering to limit interaction and contact,” Du Plessis added.
Other safety protocols to be followed on the Sunday and Monday include sanitising stations, social distancing, the wearing of face masks when not riding and having declaration forms and temperature checks upon arrival.
All riders have to book their spots in the show before coming so organisers can ensure no more than the limited number of people are present. They also have to print out and bring their own declaration forms and park their vehicles a certain distance from each other.
