Locals look for the positive in Level 3
JOBURG – Residents made the best of Level 3 lockdown and aimed to assist others.
If South Africans proved anything during the nationwide lockdown, it’s that they can make light of any situation.
One of the biggest topics of debate during the first two levels of lockdown was the prohibition on the sale of alcohol and cigarettes. While many were desperate to get their hands on their vice of choice, Minister of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma remained adamant that there was a risk of people sharing a drink or cigarette and thereby transmitting Covid-19.
During a speech Dlamini-Zuma said, “When people zol, they put saliva on the paper, and then they share that zol.”
This sentence inspired music producer Max Hurrell and he lit up social media with his catchy song Zol.
Despite the many hardships experienced by millions during the lockdown, South Africans continue to show a winning spirit.
