Witkoppen Clinic join forces with Diepsloot’s shelter for gender-based violence victims

WIRTKOPPEN– Kahn said Witkoppen Clinic reached out to Green Door to assist in identifying the victims of gender-based violence.

To lend a helping hand to victims of gender-based violence, Witkoppen Clinic partnered with a Diepsloot based non-profit organisation to offer physical and psychological support to those affected by gender-based violence.

Chairperson of the Green Door Women’s Shelter, Brown Lekekela said, “The majority of victims who come to our shelter, you will find that they have not only been emotional abused but they are also physically abused as well. Our partnership with Witkoppen Clinic will see our clients getting [free] access to both psychological and physical treatment.

“They will be able to come here and get access to medical and psychological treatment while they are temporally sheltered at our facility. We are very grateful that the clinic has offered such an opportunity to help victims of gender-based violence.”

Business development manager at the clinic, Dagmar Kahn said, “Green Door is a safe haven in the community of Diepsloot for survivors of gender-based violence and as such, is ideally positioned to identify individuals that will benefit from these services.

“Working together, Witkoppen Clinic and Green Door will assist victims to empower themselves and take control of their health and livelihoods.”

Kahn added that the clinic would provide psychotherapy interventions such as trauma counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and relationship counselling to help the victim transition into a survivor.

“We will also provide all the necessary healthcare-related support services to victims, empowering individuals to take control of their healthcare.”
