Friends of Free Wildlife has new home

KYALAMI – A non-profit organisation, Friends of Free Wildlife, is ready to call a section of Cluny Farm their forever home.

Kyalami-based non-profit organisation, Friends of Free Wildlife (FFW) proudly announced they have found a new place to call home as of August 6.

The NPO was given until the end of August to vacate their previous rented location on Maple Road as the owners are selling the property.
They have since found a section on Cluny Farm in Kyalami, which is also a known NPO, where adults living with intellectual disabilities are assisted in a farm setting.

CEO of FFW Margi Brocklehurst expressed excitement as they move to a new home. “The property includes infrastructure, and a beautiful dam with great resident bird life – perfect for a wildlife rehabilitation centre.

“Free Wildlife has signed a five-year rental agreement with Cluny Farm and the understanding of the organisation is that the property will be subdivided and purchased by Free Wildlife – providing us with a forever home at last,” she said.

Brocklehurst mentioned that Cluny Farm’s manager, Jean Wolhuter, got in touch with FFW when she heard about their search for a new location. “During the discussions between the two entities, it became clear that there were many ways in which the two charities could help each other in their work of service to the community.

“Friends of Free Wildlife and Cluny Farm will be building on that synergy in the months and years to come. There’s a lot of work ahead. By August 31, we need to have relocated our 60+ enclosures, equipment and animals.”

She addded, “In addition, renovations and alterations of the new property’s buildings will begin soon. But all the hard work will be worth it, as it allows us to continue the vital work of rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing the wildlife on our doorstep.”
Brocklehurst concluded that they will need all the help they can get from the community from transportation, building materials to labour.
