Children receive food and free extra classes from Ikemeleng Foundation
DIEPSLOOT– Malepe said the organisation has graduates who are part of the volunteers that offered to help children get up to date with their school work.
A non-profit organisation that helps feed the hungry in Diepsloot, Ikemeleng Foundation, has embarked on another mission to help local children with afterschool classes.
Co-founder of Ikemeleng Foundation that was established last year, Percy Malepe, said the initiative was aimed at helping struggling learners from different local schools with extra classes in different subjects at no cost.
He said, “We have committed ourselves to help Diepsloot community in every way possible. We’ve realised that many children in the area are not up to date with their school and some are struggling with the new system of skipping days.”
He added, “We feed more than 500 children excluding adults every day through our soup kitchen programme. We realised that other children would leave school earlier just to come and get food in our kitchen.”
According to Malepe, the organisation has graduates who are part of volunteers that offered to help children get up to date with their school work.
He concluded, “Our organisation is blessed with qualified people who are graduates in different fields and some of them are qualified teachers. They offered to help teach children at no cost in order to help them prepare for the upcoming exams.
“We hope that our project will bear good fruits at the end of the day.”
