RCCI/FCCI welcomes UK’s decision to remove South Africa from its red list

RANDBURG– Ntjana said the decision by the UK’s government and the recent decision of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) to move the country to lockdown alert Level 1 will be a major boost for local economy.

The Fourways Chamber of Commerce and Industry has welcomed the decision of the United Kingdom to remove South Africa from its red list for travel.

South Africa was among 47 destinations removed from the

red list that was announced by UK’s transport secretary Grant Shapps on October 7.

President of the local business network, Richard Ntjana said the decision by the UK’s government and the recent decision of the National Coronavirus Command Council to move the country to lockdown alert Level 1 would be a major boost for the local economy. “With ongoing job losses in the country due to hard restrictions of the lockdown, we are delighted by the move that the President has just announced to move the country back to alert Level 1 of lockdown restrictions.

“We say thumbs up to President Cyril Ramaphosa for moving us to Level 1 and maybe in the near future there won’t be any need anymore to be under the lockdown.

“We are also excited by the announcement by the British government to remove South Africa from the red list of risk countries mostly affected by the [Covid] variant.”

Ntjana concluded, “This will help tourism-related businesses get back to their normal operations and ready themselves for the festive season, which was already causing a big harm to our tourism sector.”
