Smiles, tears and excitement were in the air as parents walked their young sons and daughters to the gates of St Peter’s Prep Schools for the first day of Grade R on January 12.

With schools opening for the 2022 academic year, many parents will be ushering their young children throughout various schools. For many young learners, it is the start of big school and new uniforms – especially for the young ones at St Peter’s Prep Schools.

Headmistress of the Boys’ Junior Prep, Kenda Melvill-Smith said the morning had been a success in welcoming the school’s new leaners, saying that a school without children is a very quiet one with a lack of buzz in the air.
“It’s really exciting to have children back at school. I think we are starting 2022 on a positive note, unlike last year where we started the year online. We have had a really good start with a positive vibe.

“The Grade 1 and 2 learners who have come back this year are so excited to see their friends again, and with the Grade 0 boys, there have been no tears so they have settled in quite nicely.”

Not far away, the Girls Junior Prep welcomed their newest learners in colourful classrooms where staff were dressed in the theme of worker bees to take the young girls to their new classrooms. The morning was filled with the learners exploring their new school and meeting new friends and teachers.
