SA Guide-Dogs to bring the carnival to the community

PAULSHOF – There will be a number of activities and stalls on offer for attendees to visit and support on the day at the Guide Dogs Association.

The South African Guide-Dogs Association for the Blind are looking forward to welcoming attendees to their annual market fundraising event on February 27 in the theme of a carnival.

Set to entertain young and old, the purpose of the day’s festivities is to raise much-needed funds to continue serving the visually and physically disabled in the country, according to Yolande van Rooyen, events manager for the association.

“We have a jam-packed programme for the day, filled with exciting activities. Our puppies in training are practising hard to put their best paw forward on the day. Kennel staff are gearing up to educate participants during a tour of our kennels whilst a very exciting demonstration from our assistance dogs awaits spectators in the arena.

“Due to popular demand, we will have more adrenaline-pumping dog races throughout the day. This promises to add lots of fun and laughter to the day” she said.
The association’s orientation and mobility team have educational and entertaining activities planned where visitors will be encouraged and challenged to step out of their comfort zones and into the shoes of one who is visually impaired.

“There is also a lot more happening on the day as we spread some carnival cheer. The kids’ zone promises for endless fun and a special guest will make an appearance to ensure a fun-filled day.”
The arena will also provide various beer or tea gardens for refreshments, and will also have a number of food stalls available while also checking out the entertainment on offer.

Set to still stick to Covid-19 protocols, the carnival will also have a number of stalls selling unique pastries, African art, clothing and jewellery for any age, cookies, rusks, pickled items and many more.
“We appeal to the public to support us in our ongoing mission to create more freedom and independence for the visually and physically disabled.”
