Fourways first rugby team gets new sponsor

FOURWAYS – Ahead of their rugby season, the newly announced Fourways High School first team received new kit thanks to an alumnus.

Twenty-two rugby players of Fourways High School received a kit from a new sponsor for the upcoming season.

The first team was announced in the school assembly on March 14, with the company Sip Upcoming on board to sponsor the team just as the winter season of rugby begins. All players received branded jerseys, shorts, and bags with their jersey numbers on them.

First-team coach Shaun Jacobs and rugby head of the school Daryll Gates agreed the new sponsor meant a lot to the team ahead of the season.
“We had a previous sponsor who had to pull out so it is nice that a Fourways alumnus has come forward for something long term. We are also grateful to have Montecasino come on board who sponsored all our team’s jerseys.

“The continuation of the season brings lots of excitement to the learners. We have had a lot of learners come down and ask how to get involved in sports again,” said Gates.
Sip Up’s Stuart Wade is an alumnus of the school and also was the driving force behind the team getting sponsored kit.

“Over 20 years since my matric year and these guys weren’t even born when I was playing. It’s weird how the years go past and you come back and you can actually give back to the team.
“A small percentage of players actually continue with team sports. There is a bond you make in team sports that can even be networking opportunities. We are excited about the journey and hope it is the first of many more years with the team,” he said.
