The HeronBridge Invitational included local schools Fourways High School and Steyn City School, and schools from other provinces such as Paarl Boys High, and Krugersdorp’s Hoërskool Monument and many more.
Natasha Marot, head of marketing at the college said the festival was born out of a passion for sports and sports development to showcase the talents of young hockey, netball and rugby players in the country.

“The Standard Bank HeronBridge Invitational was a great success. It was incredible to see the turnout from supporters, parents and peers cheering on their teams.
“After two years of very little sport because of Covid, being able to host a festival of this magnitude was a great privilege for HeronBridge and we are looking forward to what 2023 holds,” she said.

“Up-and-coming schools can find it difficult to gain access to the traditional sports festivals that often only cater for the more established sporting schools in the country,” she said.
Matches in the festival were also broadcast on the SuperSport Schools app thanks to the efforts and partnership of SuperSport Schools.
“All of the young girls and boys attending are excited to have school sports back and we are delighted to be able to broadcast this to the world,” said general manager of SuperSport Schools, Gerhard Steyn.
