MEC for Human Settlements hands over title deeds to beneficiaries of the newly built RDP houses in Riverside View
The MEC said the newly introduced programme will help government fast-track distribution of houses to those who don’t qualify for RDP houses.
The government remains committed to tackling the housing backlog in the province.
This was said by the MEC for Human Settlements, Urban Planning and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Lebogang Maile. He added that the government was giving priority to elderly citizens, women, people living with disabilities and child-headed households.
Maile handed over 1 500 title deeds to rightful beneficiaries of the newly built RDP houses in Riverside View on May 13.
Maile said at the handover ceremony that government has introduced the IKageleng Land Release Programme for those earning between R3 501 and R7 000 and need land to build their homes.

He said the newly introduced programme will help government to fast-track distribution of houses to those who don’t qualify for RDP houses.
“Through this programme, we want to help those who earn too high to qualify for an RDP house and too little to get a bond. We will help them get building plans and give them five years to build their homes.”
He urged home beneficiaries to keep their title deeds safe. “Riverside View is part of the department’s Mega Human Settlements projects spearheaded by the Gauteng Government. This project will yield no less than 15 000 houses upon completion. I urge you to keep your title deeds safe and not sell them.”
